Proven, Reliable & Trusted.
Basements & Attics: Our Specialty
So often, in the course of our inspections, we find that the source of the problem is in the basement, attic, or crawl space. Each of these areas has its own uniqueness in design, construction, upkeep, and access.
We have gained valuable "hands on" experience performing inspections in these areas and can bring valuable knowledge to our customer which will identify, explain, and eliminate the source of the problem in these areas.
It's a dirty job: but we do it!
I may have mold growing in my home. What do I do?
When you are experiencing the symptoms of mold exposure, or you suspect that you may have mold growing due to water damage, there are a few choices available to you.
First, you can purchase a cheap do-it-yourself kit. The results of these are highly suspect. Remember, it is your health and your property. You only get what you pay for.
Secondly, you could contract with a mold remediation company that also does inspections. It begs the question: if you are paying someone who earns most of their income from mold removal, do you think that they are likely to discover mold?
They are likely to run anumber of air tests to attempt to determine the presence of mold. These are not 100% accurate, nor do they pinpoint the exact location of the mold.
The best way to proceed is with a Certified Mold Dog and limited, targeted air and surface testing. Certified Mold Dogs are proven, reliable and trusted to detect the presence of mold and pinpoint the exact location. A Certified Mold Dog is your BEST option to help protect your family's health and property, while keeping your remediation costs as low as possible.
When you hire Mold Rover, we will come to your property with our dog - even if you tell us that you can see signs of mold. This is what you can expect when we come for the inspection:
A Visual Inspection: Outside and Inside
Your visual inspection will be conducted outside and inside your property as an important step of identifying possible contamination problems.
After the visual inspection, Cosmo-our Certified Mold Dog-will enter your house with his handler and do a complete inspection. Whether mold is on a surface visible to humans or hidden behind walls or ceilings, Cosmo will find it.
The time needed will be impacted by the size of your house and other factors; but will likely last for 1-2 hours.
If water damage and/or mold are detected, we will show you exactly where they exist.
We will also conduct surface sampling or bulk sampling, depending on the situation. We will explain to you why we collect what we do.
Further, we may recommend air sampling to you at that point, and will discuss the pros & cons involved. If sampling is done, we will protect the collection integrity and forward samples to a certified laboratory. Dependent upon the testing required, you will see your results in either 48 hours, or 5-7 days.
Using digital cameras, we will be taking photographs during this time to include with your professional report to possibly share with your insurance company.
We will also discuss with you what potential remediation approaches are available to you; and can recommend some companies to you to complete this work. The decision is yours.
What if I am buying a home?
Whether you are considering purchasing your first home, your 10th home, or a vacation home, remember: an inspection by a Certified Mold Dog and mold inspector is the best way to determine the condition of the property to protect your health and your family's health; before purchasing. Mold Rover, Inc. is uniquely positioned to help you.
Many new homes built in the 20 years are experienced severe mold problems, due to the wood getting wet during construction combined with today's air-tight building methods.
Many homes here in New England have been exposed to rain during construction. Or, maybe the lumber was soaked in a storm before being delivered to the job site. These conditions set the stage for mold problems in your new home.
Even if you are buying a "New" home, consider a pre-purchase mold inspection for your family's health and peace of mind.
What if I already own a home or commercial building?
Maybe you aren't buying a new home, but are experiencing moldy smells and/or feeling sick from being home or at work. Perhaps you see what you suspect is mold.
In either case, Mold Rover, Inc. has the solution for you.
We will schedule a time come to your property at a time convenient to you. Once on-site, we will perform a through inspection to determine whether mold exists in your property.
Mold Rover's clients experience peace of mind in knowing what their property's status is, as well as receiving solid recommendations as to what to do to eliminate any potential mold.
What to Expect From a Professional Mold Rover Inspection
Since mold is never a problem unless there is moisture, and since the average house has 3 "water events" in its history, the first goal in the inspection is to find the source of the water/moisture. This goal begins by interviewing the property owner about their knowledge of past leaks, floods, etc. concerning the property.
Next, a complete visual inspection of the property (both outside and inside) is conducted. The inspector will be closely looking for flaws that can be (now, or in the future) contributing to any elevation in moisture. The visual inspection can indicate wet or damp wood, drywall, plaster, areas under sinks and windows, etc. The visual inspection can reveal mold on surfaces, and can provide clues for hidden mold. This is a highly important part of the inspection; and generally lasts for an hour or more, depending on the size and layout of the property.
After the visual inspection is completed, mold dog Cosmo is brought inside for his inspection. Working with his handler, they cover every inch of the property seeking mold. Although mold may be only colonizing in one location, Cosmo averages finding it in 20-25 locations per inspection. This is partly because when mold is exposed to moisture it releases its spores and other fragments. Spores are very light and travel on air currents, on people's and pets' movements as well. Cosmo most often finds mold growing behind walls, under floors, etc. The value of this is priceless to the customer.
Following Cosmo's inspection, photos are taken to be included in the comprehensive written report that is sent to the customer a short time after the inspection. At this time, the inspector shares his findings with the customer and explains how to clean up the mold. A detailed remediation plan is included in the written report. Approximately 90% of Mold Rover's customers are able to clean up their mold and save a great amount of money. This is because with a Mold Rover inspection, you will know exactly where the mold is.
If the customer wants or needs laboratory testing, for any reason, we are fully certified to perform those tests as well. The time needed to complete this comprehensive inspection is about 2 hours. Please call us to discuss your needs.
